Do I need to move all the furniture?
For interiors, clear small items and wall hangings if you can; the painter will protect floors and remaining furniture. For exteriors, clear access to the walls and keep pets and children away from ladders and wet paint.
What about old lead paint?
Lead paint is common under later coats in older UK homes. Ask how the decorator will control dust and dispose of waste under HSE guidance — wet methods and containment beat dry sanding.
