Painting costs — guidance, not a quote
Painting is priced once the surfaces have been inspected. These factors move the cost up or down.

What drives the cost
- Type of job: a single room, a full interior, timber windows, or a full exterior.
- Condition of the existing paint — chalking, peeling, mould or failed caulk all add prep.
- Access: scaffolding, parking and neighbour notice on terraced streets.
- Number of colours and whether walls, ceilings and woodwork are included.
- Conservation area or listed-building requirements for matching colours and finishes.
- Lead-paint controls when older coatings may be present.
Insurance notes
Sudden damage from a covered event is treated differently from wear and tear or deferred maintenance. Whether and how much your insurer pays depends on the policy. Photograph damage and keep receipts for any emergency work.
Why there is no price list here
Two rooms that look alike can need very different prep once adhesion, mildew and substrate are checked, so any fixed price would be guesswork. Official licensing and lead-safe guidance is linked below.
